One of the most unique wines …

One of the most unique wines I’ve encountered will be unveiled in Queensland for the first time at The Golden 100 Spring Wine Spectacular next Thursday night, October 16, at the Brisbane Marriott Hotel.
Greenock Farm The Fenceline 2005 is produced by Russell Wines, one of James Halliday's ten best new wineries for 2009.
I was lucky enough to enjoy a bottle in the Barossa with the guy who made the wine, Shawn Kalleske (of Laughing Jack fame).
The Fenceline is made up of no less than eight different types of red and white grapes, which grow along the fence of the Greenock Farm vineyard, owned by John Russell (pictured right).
Grenache is the primary component, blended with Shiraz, Mourvedre, Semillon, Riesling, Red Frontinac, White Frontinac and Tokay. Even Halliday was a little surprised, saying, 'This is a weirdo of gargantuan proportions'. Weird can be wonderful though – Halliday rated the wine a very strong 90 points.
John Russell, who fell in love with the wine game after starting the Barossa Music Festival in 1990, will be manning one of 15 stalls at The Golden 100. He will also be doling out tastes of his stellar Victor Shiraz, which scored 94 points from Halliday, and the St Vincent Barossa Valley Chardonnay 2006, which will be released for the first time.
More than 100 wines will be on show at the Marriott. Look for wines from leading Australian and New Zealand wineries such as Chris Ringland, Craggy Range, De Bortoli, Gemtree, Henschke, Lenton Brae, Oakridge, Poonawatta Estate, Tamar Ridge, Teusner, Wicks Estate, Yering Station and Yalumba.
Leading private sommelier Darren Davis will host the event.
